Laser Eye Surgery: LASIK, LASEK, PRK, No-Touch, StreamLight and SMILE
Laser eye surgeries are applied for the treatment of visual defects such as myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. It is also popularly known as “eye scratching”. In our hospital, these surgeries have been performed by Prof. Dr. Mahmut Kaşkaloğlu and his team using Femto laser and Excimer laser since 1992.
Informative videos about Intralase LASIK, No Touch laser, i-classic, LASEK, PRK, SMILE and ICL surgeries of Izmir Kaşkaloğlu Eye Hospital doctors are available on ourYoutube page.
Eye defect correction surgeries performed with an excimer laser are performed with different techniques such as LASIK and LASEK, No Touch laser, PRK.
I-classic, I-design, Wavefront, T-cat, A-cat, A-cat, presbyond, Streamlight are variations of these techniques and are also popularly known as eagle eye, eye drawing. If the number is too high, ICL surgery may be appropriate. Click here for ICL surgery.

Laser Refractive Surgery Methods at Kaskaloglu Eye Hospital
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis)
LASIK permanently changes the shape of the cornea using an excimer laser. This method, which is preferred for the correction of visual impairments such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, stands out with its short recovery time and high success rate. With modern technologies such as Femto-LASIK, these operations are safely performed in our hospital.LASEK (Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis)
The LASEK method is based on loosening and removing the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) and shaping it with an excimer laser. LASEK, which is an alternative method especially for patients with thin corneas, is an effective option for the correction of certain visual defects.PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)
PRK is the removal of the epithelial layer from the surface of the cornea and reshaping it with a laser. The epithelial layer heals on its own over time. It is an ideal solution for patients who are not suitable for LASIK or have thin corneas.No-Touch Laser
No-Touch laser, also known as non-contact laser method, is applied without any physical contact to the cornea. It is a preferred treatment option for patients with sensitive eyes or who are not suitable for conventional methods.StreamLight Technology
StreamLight takes excimer laser technology to a new dimension, offering precision and comfort in surface laser treatments. With its non-contact application, it provides advantages especially for patients with sensitive eye structure.SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction)
SMILE is a minimally invasive laser treatment method performed through a small incision. SMILE, which is a comfortable option for the correction of visual impairments, also draws attention with its fast healing process.

Frequently asked questions and curious topics about Lasik eye surgeries.
What is the purpose of LASIK and LASEK surgery?
With LASIK and LASEK surgery, myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism are corrected by reshaping the anterior part of the cornea using an excimer laser by the ophthalmologist.
What is the difference between LASIK and LASEK no touch?
During LASIK, a thin layer is removed from the anterior part of the cornea with Intralase (bladeless laser) and an excimer laser is applied to the underside to correct the number by shaping the cornea to the desired shape. In LASEK, a thinner layer is removed and therefore healing is slower. In no touch, the thin layer is removed with a laser. If you are asking which surgery should I prefer, first of all, follow your doctor’s advice. However, basically, if the eye structure of the person is suitable for Lasik, Lasik is preferred because those who have Lasik surgery return to normal life within a few hours.
What is NO TOUCH, is it a new surgery?
No touch is an advertising name. This technique has been used since the days of laser correction of eye disorders. It is an application form of PRK or LASEK surgery.
Can LASIK be performed on both eyes at the same time?
Yes, almost all of our patients can have both eyes in the same session.
Can LASIK patients have cataract surgery in the future?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions. Lasik is a surgery performed at a young age, while cataracts are seen at older ages. Those who have LASIK can have cataract or other eye surgeries if necessary.
Do ophthalmologists perform LASIK surgery?
Yes, those who have bad eyesight and whose eyes are suitable for them and their families who wish to have these surgeries are undergoing these surgeries. Our doctors have performed these surgeries on their mothers, siblings and spouses. In addition, since the majority of doctors are over 40 years old, there are ophthalmologists who use near glasses. How is LASIK done?
Our patients who will undergo LASIK are evaluated with Pentacam, Orbscan and Allegro Topolyser-Analyzer tests after an eye examination by the ophthalmologist. If the patient’s eye is suitable for Wavefront, popularly called “eagle eye” or other personalized treatments, further tests are performed. Patients found suitable for LASIK are informed about the procedures and an appointment is given. On the day of the appointment, the patient is examined again and taken to the laser room. After the transparent layer is numbed with drops, a thin layer is removed with Intralase Femto laser. During this procedure, there is a slight compression sensation in the eye but no pain is felt. The patient is then instructed to look at the red light and LASIK surgery is performed. Since our device has an eye-tracker system that tracks the movements of the eye, moving the patient’s eye does not affect the treatment. After the procedure, the patient is given protective glasses to wear that night. Our patients can return to their daily lives from the next day.
How is LASEK done?
All procedures for LASIK are the same, but Intralase is not applied. Recovery is on average one week. If the eye structure of the person is suitable for Lasik, it is preferred because recovery is achieved within a few hours after surgery.
What is Eagle Eye (Wavefront)?
Some eyes have optical irregularities of the eye called “aberrations” in combination with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. Aberrations can cause a decrease in night vision and visual acuity. In this case, correcting aberrations along with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism can lead to an increase in night vision and visual acuity. Personalized treatment options known as “eagle eye” are applied in our clinic with Wavefront, F-cat, T-cat methods. Your doctor will decide on the appropriate method for you.
What is Smile surgery?
With the SMILE laser method, which is applied with femto laser in the treatment of myopia and astigmatism, a lenticule (piece) is removed from the cornea through laser incisions to correct the eye disorder and the effect is achieved by flattening the cornea. The biggest disadvantages of this method, which is relatively new compared to Lasik and Lasek, are the limited possibility of reapplication if any numbers remain in the eye after surgery and the lack of an eye tracking system required for precise correction of astigmatism. This method is currently only applicable for myopic and nearsighted astigmatism. There is no evidence in scientific publications that it is superior to Lasik and Lasek.
Who can not have LASIK?
Not for pregnant women with keratoconus, thin cornea, uveitis, uncontrolled glaucoma or uncontrolled diabetes. Under 18 years of age and over 65 years of age, except in special cases. Your doctor will have the final say in this matter.
LASIK, PRK, LASEK, No touch, Intralase (intralasik, ilasik, i-classic), Eagle eye, Wavefront: Which one is right for me?
These are all laser eye surgery methods. Doctors specialized in laser eye surgery can decide which method is suitable for you. After the alternatives are presented to you, making the decision together with your doctor will be decisive in getting the best result for you.
What are the prices for laser eye surgery?
Since laser eye surgery techniques may be different, it is not possible to give exact prices on the website.
I wear contact lenses, what should I do?
LASIK or LASEK can be performed for contact lens wearers. For soft lenses, surgery can be performed even if you remove them on the same day if topography is appropriate.
What should I do if my eye is not suitable for laser?
LASIK cannot be performed when the eye impairment is very high or the cornea is thin. In this case, the alternatives are phakic iol or clear lens extraction. In phakic iol surgery, ICL, Artisan or Artiflex intraocular lenses are used. Clear lens extraction (CLE) is similar to cataract surgery. Trifocal lenses, popularly called smart lenses, are used.
What should I do on the day of surgery?
On the day of LASIK, wear comfortable clothes and arrive at the appointment time given to you. Although the LASIK procedure takes an average of 15 minutes, you may need to spend 3-4 hours in our clinic.
Is the LASIK procedure painful?
Since the eye is numbed with drops before LASIK and LASEK, the procedure is painless. There may be stinging, pain and watering in the first 4 hours after the laser.
Is the LASEK procedure painful?
There is no pain during LASEK, but there may be pain afterwards. Painkiller drops are given in our hospital to reduce pain. Recovery from Lasek surgery takes 7-10 days.
LASIK heals quickly and is painless, why LASEK?
Our first choice is LASIK, but some people have thin cornea and are not suitable for LASIK. In addition, LASIK patients can be understood that they have undergone LASIK surgery with a careful ophthalmologist examination. In LASEK, it is often not possible to understand. Those who do not want it to be understood that they have had surgery prefer LASEK.
When will my vision be clear?
After Lasik, your vision is almost completely clear after 3-4 hours. In Lasek and no-touch surgery, clarity takes 7-10 days. Full recovery takes about 6 months and the number does not change after this time.
Do I need to use eye drops after LASIK?
Cortisone and antibiotic drops and artificial tears are used for a short time after LASIK.
Will my eye be closed after LASIK?
We give you protective glasses after LASIK. We do not close your eyes.
How will my eye look immediately after LASIK?
There may be redness in the white of your eye after LASIK. The degree varies from person to person and disappears within 15 days.
When can I go back to work?
You can return to work from the day after LASIK surgery. However, if you work in very unhygienic, dusty environments, it is useful to take a break for a few days. Recovery after LASEK takes about a week, so those who have LASEK should take at least a week off.
Can myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism be corrected with LASIK?
Myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism can be corrected with new generation excimer laser devices.
What is the best laser treatment?
There is no method that we can distinguish as the best laser treatment because they can all be applied. Your doctor will recommend the most suitable treatment for you. As a result, alternatives are Lasik, lasek, PRK and to touch surgeries. Laser surgery prices do not change according to the technique applied.
Will I wear glasses after LASIK?
The vast majority of patients can perform their daily activities without wearing glasses after this procedure. However, those over the age of 40-45 will need to wear near or reading glasses.
What are the risks of LASIK?
LASIK and other laser surgeries are the safest surgeries. Their success rates are very high when performed by experienced physicians and appropriate devices. However, no treatment in medicine is risk-free and complication-free. In our hospital, every precaution is taken to prevent complications. Possible complications include infection, night reflections, undercorrection and overcorrection. In our clinic, all patients who will undergo LASIK are given more detailed information about the risks and made to read and sign an informed consent form.
